IT Asset Disposal (ITAD) policy development

A successful ITAD reduces security risk and cost. This will require the development of policies and processes to: start verifying IT assets for smooth handover at time of decommissioning; erase data on-site or provide a chain of custody prior to the data being erased off-site; recover residual value or refurbish prior to redeployment; and provide reports and certificates to close the asset lifecycle. It is also important to avoid
common pitfalls.

Storage of IT assets

Although essential, this must be keep to the absolute minimum – storerooms are generally managed by junior management, which can delay receiving and verification procedures, leading to “organised chaos” and inevitable shortages.
